One Year, One Heart

A year ago, on June 14th, two lives that had traveled different roads found the path they were always meant to walk together.

What began as a spark, became a flame. What began as hope, became certainty. What began as two hearts, became one.

For twelve months, we have lived a love story that stretches across oceans, continents, languages, and time zones. The miles have been real, but somehow they never felt stronger than what pulled us together. While half a world separated us, not a single month passed without us finding our way back into each other’s arms.

And every reunion felt like coming home.

· · ·

Together we wandered beneath the lights of Shanghai and through the timeless beauty of Wuzhen. We explored the mountains and city lights of Chongqing, shared adventures in Singapore and Taiwan, and discovered new corners of the world while learning more about each other.

We stood beside the waters of Taihu Lake. We wandered the ancient streets of Zhouzhuang. We laughed through adventures in Wuxi and explored Jinji Lake by land and water, creating memories that will forever belong only to us.

In Suzhou, we even learned that skiing and winter adventures indoors can be just as much fun when you’re with the person who makes every place feel even more magical.

· · ·

Then there was Texas.

Dripping Springs. Austin. College Station. Our first 18 holes of golf at Falcon Head. Exploring Fredericksburg. Hiking Enchanted Rock.

Magical days beneath wide-open skies. Quiet moments on the lake. Time spent in the kitchen cooking together. Adventures that felt less like vacation and more like previews of the life we would someday build together.

· · ·

Every journey gave us a new photograph.

Every photograph captured a memory.

Every memory became another thread woven into the story of us.

· · ·

But among all our adventures, one moment shines brighter than every other.

On a beautiful beach in Putuo, where one year earlier you had asked Buddha for a lifelong partner and this year, a future filled with happiness together with me, fate completed its circle.

There, with the waves behind us and our future before us, I asked you to be my laopoa

And you said Yes!

In that moment, the world seemed to pause.

Not because our story was beginning.

Because it had finally become the story we both knew it was meant to be.

· · ·

Since then, we have dreamed together. Planned together. Imagined our future together. Walked through neighborhoods and searched for the place where our next chapter will begin.

Not just a condo.

A home… Our home.

A place where distance no longer exists.

A place where goodbyes become unnecessary.

A place where every morning begins with you and every evening ends with us.

· · ·

People often say that fairy tales are not real.

But I think they simply have not met you.

Because loving you has felt like living inside one.

You are my best friend when I need to laugh.

My partner when life is serious.

My comfort when days are difficult.

My adventure when life becomes exciting.

My peace when the world is noisy.

My home no matter where I am in the world.

Together we are playful and silly.

We are passionate and devoted.

We are dreamers and planners.

We are two imperfect people who fit perfectly together.

And that is why distance never defeated us.

Because every mile only confirmed what we already knew:

You are the other half of my heart

My soulmate

My best friend

My lover

My forever person

One year ago, we started writing this story.

Today, I look back on every city, every flight, every hug at an airport, every goodbye that led to another hello, every adventure, every laugh, every kiss, every dream, and I realize something wonderful:

The greatest part of this story was never where we traveled.

It was who I was with.

And as beautiful as our first year has been, I know with absolute certainty that it is only the first chapter.

The greatest adventures are still ahead of us.

The home we dream about is still waiting.

The wedding is still coming.

The life we will build together is still unfolding.

And someday, many years from now, when we look back at all of this, I hope we will smile and remember that the most extraordinary thing was not finding the world together.

It was finding each other.

Happy One-Year Anniversary, Baobao.

One year down.

A lifetime to go.

Forever your fiancé.

Forever your best friend.

Forever your laogong. ♥
